The Timeless Classic
Shaker kitchens and more-traditional kitchens will undoubtedly retain their popularity, but our bespoke design and manufacturing expertise allows us to integrate the contemporary features you’d expect to find in a modern kitchen. All in the continuous quest to meet the needs of individual customers who wish to choose a bespoke handmade kitchen which is exclusive to them and not a series of mass-produced boxes bolted together.
A shaker kitchen is one of the oldest known kitchen designs, dating back to the mid 1700’s its sturdy, minimalistic cabinetry has stood the test of time and remains a firm favourite to this day.
Shaker Quakers believed that living a good honest, simple life was paramount and this is reflected in the love, patience and top-quality craftsmanship that went into building shaker kitchens hundreds of years ago.
A traditional Shaker door consists of a five-panel design, but it is all down to personal preference. Designs can be enhanced with beading or cornice; we strive to manufacture the perfect kitchen with unique quirky features. Using top quality materials is of the upmost importance to us and ensures our kitchens can be enjoyed and admired for years to come.
Choosing Your Colour
If you want to find out if your colour is not only on trend, but for you, you should certainly seek out a sample pot from your preferred supplier. Rather than using a small amount on a sample card, find yourself a piece of card that is the same size as your cupboard frontages and paint it using the whole pot.
Then you can stand the card in front of your cupboards and take a proper look at how it would work in your kitchen, observing it from afar, up close and with different amounts of light illuminating it. Once you have decided on the colour that are going to work for you, it’s time to get in touch with Banyan Tree Studio.

Kitchen Carcasses Explained
The carcass is a kitchen cabinet without the door and drawers – and it is important to know about their structure and quality. For example, what’s the density of the material? That’s more important than the thickness yet, believe you me, it is rarely, if ever talked about by the sales rep when you first visit an average kitchen showroom.
Therefore, you need to examine the material and quality of kitchen cabinets / carcases yourself before you decide just what you want, ask exactly what the materials are.
These are listed in order of quality and price, lowest first.
Melamine-faced chipboard – These vary immensely in density. Frequently salespeople talk about 18mm thick kitchen cabinets, but don’t be fooled, the carcass thickness does not matter too much, it’s the DENSITY of the material which will determine the lifetime of your kitchen cupboards. Low density chipboard does not hold screws very well and is more prone to permanent warp in damp conditions. So, ask them just how dense the material of the carcass is.
Melamine-faced medium density fibreboard (MDF) – This tends to have less air pockets than the polished chipboard carcasses. One should again ask to see and feel the material.
Polished real veneer MDF – These will look and feel-good quality.
Plywood – Some companies claim that their carcases are made from ‘real wood’ and so create the impression that they’re worth substantially more than you’re being quoted. But the fact is, plywood is significantly cheaper than real solid wood.
Polished plywood – polished plywood veneer carcases can feel like they’re made from real wood and the price tag should reflect it.
Real Wood – Naturally real wood that has been properly treated is the best choice if money is no object.
