Reclaimed Oak Wagon Boards
What are Wagon Boards?
These thick oak boards are salvaged when French Railway box cars (goods wagons) are taken out of service.
It is amazing how well preserved these reclaimed wagon boards managed to stay, after they were continuously exposed under extreme circumstances.
The old French freight wagon trains used back in the days were just open boxes, therefore the wagon boards that were the flooring of those wagons, have gained in time an atypical patina.
After we clean the boards, we discover an unmatched, charming, and noble texture that no other wood can provide.
** Used in our Provence Range**
Among old woods with a fascinating history, the wagon floor probably comes first with a lifetime spent on the rails of Europe.
The parts extracted from old wagons approach a style rustic and worn, which does not suffer from any comparison with old building wood, or with artificially aged wood.
Who are the travellers who have walked on these boards? What were their stories? What were the precious goods conveyed across regions, countries, and maybe even continents?
All these unanswered questions are part of the creation, the singular soul of the wagon boards and their so special character.
Milled Wagon Boards
Created from our stunning wagon boards featuring an amazing milled surface...the milling process produces a smooth surface whilst retaining the striking characteristics of this beautiful timber.
The unique patina of these 80–100-year-old solid oak boards can only be achieved through decades of use and natural weathering.
